This is the classic Richmond fall outing. Expect farm animals, tractor-drawn wagon rides, animatronic dinosaurs, a corn maze and plenty of decorated photo spots. Weekends add live music and train rides. Your ticket includes one pumpkin to take home and a Spartan apple, and extra pumpkins can be bought on site. Into the Deep at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery

Where: 12138 Fourth Avenue, Steveston
When: Daily to November 1, 10:00am to 5:00pm

This camera-friendly exhibit fills the Cannery with sea creatures built entirely from recycled plastic and ocean waste. It is spooky, creative and a good rainy day option. Post your photos online for discounted admission, or snap a costumed selfie with the hashtag #CanneryCostumeContest and tag the Cannery for a chance to win a gift basket. Halloween at Lansdowne Centre

Where: 5300 No. 3 Road
When: Halloween train October 7 to November 1 (Wednesdays to Sundays only). Trick-or-treat event October 31, 4:00pm to 6:00pm.

Lansdowne is a reliable indoor choice for families with young children. Selfie-ready decorations are set up around the mall, and the themed indoor mini train returns for another year. Halloween Spooktacular Harvest at Aberdeen Centre

Where: 4151 Hazelbridge Way
When: Halloween display October 16 to November 1. Activities October 31, 1:00pm to 5:00pm.

A Halloween diorama takes over the Central Atrium from mid-October. The main day is October 31, with a magic show and photos with Scrappy the Scarecrow, both free. Halloween Hoot at Richmond Nature Park

Where: 11851 Westminster Highway
When: October 24 to November 1, 10:00am to 4:00pm. Admission by donation.

This drop-in event turns the Pond Trail into a spooky walk lined with inflatables and art installations, and pumpkins are on sale if you have not picked one yet. Gallery of Horrors at The Arts Conservatory

Where: 5 to 12491 No. 2 Road
When: October 24, 5:00pm to 8:00pm

A costume-friendly carnival that raises funds for Jeremy’s Memorial Foundation. Entry is free, with paid extras. Kids can try craft stations, carnival games, trick-or-treating and a haunted house (small minimum donation), then finish with the free photo booth and dance floor. Ghosts and Grips at the Richmond Olympic Oval

When: October 28, 6:30pm to 9:30pm. Regular drop-in rates apply.

Burn off some candy energy before the big night. Climbers of all levels take on a Halloween-themed dyno competition on the Oval’s tall climbing wall, alongside games, music and activities. Trick-or-Treat in Steveston Village

Where: Steveston Village
When: October 31, 3:00pm to 5:00pm. Free.

One of Richmond’s most popular Halloween traditions. Costumed kids stroll the village while participating shops hand out candy. All month long, creative scarecrows line the streets for the Steveston Scarecrow Crawl, so see how many you can spot. Stay for lunch or an afternoon snack at Pajo’s Fish and Chips, and wander the Steveston Fisherman’s Wharf while you are here.

Meowlloween at RAPS Cat Sanctuary

Where: 3380 No. 6 Road
When: October 31 and November 1, 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Advance reservation required.

Spend a Halloween afternoon with more than 450 resident cats. Costumes, spooky music and decorations set the mood, and visitors can enter a costume contest, hunt for clues on a scavenger hunt, use the photo booth and even get a tarot card reading. Minoru Halloween Fireworks Festival

Where: Minoru Park Track, 7191 Granville Avenue
When: October 31, 6:30pm to 9:15pm. Free.

The region’s biggest Halloween fireworks night turns 40 this year with an Alien Invasion theme. The fireworks finale lights up the sky at 9:00pm, but the evening starts early with live music, circus performers, professional pumpkin carving, carnival games and a giant inflatable spaceship.
